Descriptions of All Haeger Flower Frogs: While my personal collection is cataloged below, you can learn about all Haeger flower frogs on my Haeger Potteries page.
Impressed Logo and Red Clay: Pieces that have an impressed Haeger diamond logo on the bottom, and/or were made with red clay, are among the earliest pieces of Haeger art pottery with production beginning in 1914.
Glazes: There are a gazillion Haeger glazes and many collectors enjoy identifying them. Catalogs often list the glazes available for particular pieces; other times they simply list the glazes available for the items appearing in the catalog.
However, many of the early glaze descriptions are ambiguous. And many could have been described in catalogs that have never been found, so we have to be careful not to mismatch them to known glazes. And finally, they were all applied by hand so we never see two pieces alike.
I give the name of the glaze for each piece I feel somewhat confident about, but it is never more than a best guess.

No. 59 Round
Identification: This is an extremely difficult piece to collect because it has to be identified among a gazillion other similar flower frogs. Because of this, most examples are accompanied by a well-known Haeger bowl of the same glaze.
When searching for the flower frog, the most obvious characteristic to look for is a known Haeger glaze. Other characteristics are the indented ring around the perimeter of the top, the shape of the bottom, and a ring halfway down the side that runs around the perimeter. I suspect this is formed at the joining of the upper and lower halves of a clamshell-shapped mold.

Rookwood Pottery
Identification: Almost all my Rookwood flower frogs are marked with the Rookwood logo, year of production, shape number and size. The logo consists of the letters RP for Rookwood Pottery, but with the R turned backward.
To indicate the year of production, each year beginning in 1887 a flame was added around the RP. This culminated in 1900 with 14 flames, which is how the logo appears today. Then beginning in 1901 the last two digits of the calendar year were added below the logo in Roman numerals. For example, XVII appears below the logo on a flower frog produced in 1917.
All of my Rookwood flower frogs are marked with shape number 1621 followed by a letter to indicate their size, with the exception of the tall 2552s and the oblong 2612s. These are marked with the shape number but no size letter, I imagine because they were only made in one size.
The letters A through F indicate the size from the largest to the smallest, respectively. However, that is not to suggest that all shapes were made in six sizes, or even more than one. My Rookwood flower frogs range in size from B through F.
I also have one flower frog, which I have cataloged as No. C-103, marked with a sideways P to indicate that it is made of porcelain.

Shape 1621 – Early Dome Style
Note: A Rookwood shape number usually refers to a specific shape, but block (non-figural) flower frogs are an exception. Shape number 1621 is used for a variety of shapes as seen in these early dome-shaped examples and the hockey puck-shaped examples which follow.
